From the previous week’s feedback on the lack of analysis of the data collected, we sat down to synthesise the Wee walk and the user journey of a buyer and seller on the current platform of Gumtree.

Synthesis

As for the Wee walk we felt that the Interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA) was the best suited as we wanted to understand the personal experience of the subject.

Hoping to excavate a few learning points, we sat together to put down the data in an organized manner in the form of tabular column. To represent the emotional journey, we used emoticons. The mind map of both the buyer and the seller were plotted. It had many loop holes. Such as we were not prepared to present the full back story of the buyer. It was more seller focused. There was no actual exchange of money happening. The whole experiment was limited just to the handing off of the liquid to the buyer.

Since this study was based on just one person, we were doubtful on the reliability of the data acquired. But as we started the process, we realised that we didn’t need broad generalisation but more in-depth decoding of data collected.

Assumption and realization

The agenda we had was to observe the internal emotional change while also visually observing the interaction/ gaze of the passerby. Since we had assumed that people would notice the subject’s presence and the container in their hand. But turns out people just carried on with their work.

During the synthesis, I felt like maybe we should have made the audio recordings (field notes) simultaneous as the events occurred rather than making a brief recording at last. This made me realize that qualitative this process may not be linear, and that we might have to happen in a cyclic process as stated by David E Gary in the book Doing research in the real world ( Pg 321 )

We had also received this feedback on trying to avoid going medical and shifting the whole trust factor just on testing. We were really concerned on how to stop the system being used to trade urine for the purpose of passing a drug test.

Meanwhile we collected items we found around in the room and quickly.

We look at the common container shapes in the supermarket to mimic and blend into the environment.

Also talk about the container design that we started doing

Our initial plan was to do dedicate 2 weeks to urine and the next 2 weeks for breastmilk.

At this point we were all lost a little bit on not understanding what to do.
