Once we were done with the experimental phase of 2nd week, we wondered how and what would our next steps be. The third week was filled with brainstorming of different ideas for the final experience. The timeline that we had initially created was very linear and didn’t workout with our cyclic and iterative process (as is most of the design processes).

We came across this reading about leverage points. It was interesting to think about how if were to remove the delay in the negative/positive consequences for intaking a food, then people would be more aware and could be a way to make informed decisions. But it had a flip side too. What if a person ingests something by mistake that leads to bad negative immediate consequences. But with delay, the body might had healed and reconstructed itself to defend the “poison”.

At this stage I realized we were producing so many ideas that were short lived and this confused us a lot. We couldn’t decide on one thing in unison. So we decided to list out all the ideas and did a quick speed dating within the team to get feedback on our own ideas.

These were the shortlisted ideas

One of my ideas that I really liked was to develop an app

The game:

The volunteer needs to take care of an avatar(eg. virtual plant). They are not given any instructions except that they have to care for the plant. The user is supposed to look at/listen to the avatar and figure out what it needs. It shows signs 1) growling 2) tired 3) acting crazy Over-caring could make the avatar pampered and happy temporarily, but then the lifespan reduces. Listen to it rather that imposing the assumptions of you knowing what it needs.

With some combined discussion with the group, we decided to give the virtual plant idea a try. So we created the whole concept behind it and the logics of the game and how it would work. Once that was over, we thought it would be a good idea for us to get this idea peer reviewed.

Upon discussing with our course mates, we arrived at the following points:

I was really inspired by the water bulbs at our campus digital lab. The concept is that the soil absorbs the water from these bulbs as and when they require it. There was a good balance between the demand and the supply. We were thinking what if something like that existed for humans too

Also at this point we understood that there is no one ‘healthy’ body size. Each individual is unique and they require nutrients on a personal
