Week 4

Before even we could hear about the brief, I was too excited for this particular project. I love the colour yellow and some of us even dressed yellow for the debriefing of the project.

The first thing that we explored was about the emotional impact that the colour imparts on the viewer.

One of the initial ideas that struck us was that why certain films have these yellow filters. Upon some basic research online, we found that majorly movies that shows catastrophe or distress plotlines use these filters. There was another idea to find out why East Asians were referred to as ‘yellow’ skinned.

We really liked the idea of how yellow can alter the emotions of a person towards an object. Even though, the rest of the ideas were interesting to us, we found it to be a one line answer question.

Returning to our initial idea, as a part of our toolkit, we painted a couple of objects into yellow. (Stick, telephone booth, stone). Then we tested it out with a couple of people on how they felt about it.

Found out that they really liked the idea of how yellow adds life to lifeless object.

On the side, we also had this idea to explore the cultural attachment to turmeric and how it changes the perception of a person towards an object. Upon testing we found that the results were ambiguous due to the varied cultural setting and parameters that controls the perception.

Therefore, we dropped that out

At this point, everyone in the team felt like wherever they looked, could only see yellow. We felt frustrated because yellow just became too much for us after a point. We concentrated too much on creating the toolkit and dint put much effort into the artefact analysis. Personally, I had very less confidence while presenting for the interim feedback session.
